This is your opportunity to help transform one of Canada's largest and most trusted companies!

Spend your Co-op with the Innovation team in our Strategic Customer Marketing business unit. We operate like a Start-up within one of Canada's largest Financial Services Institutions. We are looking for bright and energetic students to join us this Winter(January to April 2019).

Our Innovation team is building the future of our company and our industry. Using foresight, research, and design thinking techniques, we envision what our world might look like in the future; get deep insights into our customers’ lives and needs, and prototype solutions that nobody’s ever seen before.

We don’t just design Apps; we create strategies, services, experiences, and new types of products. Just like our company, the scope of our work is incredibly broad – touching on everything from health wearables and mental wellness, to socially responsible investing.

Our team is a highly collaborative and diverse group of designers, anthropologists, product managers, business strategists, and more.

    The Work:

    • Learn and practice innovation techniques like design thinking and foresight
    • Help plan and conduct research with real customers
    • Research and report on trends, technologies, or start-ups
    • Participate in sense-making and ideation workshops to translate insights into new products, services, experiences, and business strategies
    • Develop personas, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications
    • Communicate provocative and practical insights through writing, presentations, graphics, and other media you might have experience in (e.g., video)

    You:

    • Innately curious, opinionated, and empathetic
    • Creative and practical
    • Excited about FinTech, InsurTech, and the future of Health and Financial services
    • Knowledgeable or eager to learn about innovation, design, and foresight
    • Passionate about your craft or discipline, whatever it may be
    • Courageous enough to explore new and unfamiliar topics
    • Self-directed; able to work with frequent coaching but minimal supervision
    • A team player who can work in teams with people from different backgrounds
    • An excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing

    Requirements:

    • In the process of completing relevant post-secondary education in one of the following disciplines:
      • Sociology, Anthropology, Digital Arts, Design, Engineering or a Business program
    • Demonstrate skills or experience in ONE (or more) of the following areas:
      • Visual design: creating beautiful documents, visualizing information in elegant and insightful ways, building storyboards, drawing prototypes
      • Design thinking/research: framing problems and opportunities, conducting research and interviews with users/customers, synthesizing insights, generating ideas, building and testing prototypes
      • Business: researching trends, assessing competitors, understanding business models, creating strategies, building spreadsheets
      • Product management: conducting user research, gathering insights, creating use cases, communicating requirements, prioritizing features
      • Multidisciplinary ninja: we will consider applicants who have excellent skills and experience that cut across several of the above categories

Additionally, we are looking for you to demonstrate your strong communication skills in your application. Links to portfolios are required for visual designers, and optional for other disciplines.
